His first meeting with the Irishman also performed incredibly, exceeding 1.3m PPV buys.

Nate Diaz next fight

Nate Diaz is set to return to the boxing ring to take on another wild personality of the MMA world in Jorge Masvidal on July 6.

The two were originally scheduled to fight on June 1, at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, however instead of going head to head with UFC 302, the event was rescheduled for July 6 and will take place from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Their rivalry stems back to 2019 when they fought in the UFC’s inaugural ‘BMF’ title fight.

The bout was stopped at the end of round three because of a bad cut on Diaz’s eye, resulting in Masvidal picking up the win.

Nate Diaz vs Jake Paul

Diaz made his boxing debut against internet sensation, Jake Paul, last August.

The fight took place from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, with Paul picking up the unanimous decision win after dominating for the entirety of the fight.

Coming into the fight, MMA fans were optimistic about Diaz’s chances against Paul, as he is known for his unbreakable chin and constant forward pressure.

Despite that, he was unable to cause ‘The Problem Child’ an issue and Paul went on to 7-1.

Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor

At UFC 196 on March 5, 2016, Conor McGregor was set to take on then lightweight champion, Rafael Dos Anjos for the 155lb strap.

Just 11 days out from the fight, Dos Anjos pulled out of the fight after breaking his foot in training, and Diaz was called upon. Because he was stepping in on such short notice, the bout was changed from 155lbs to 170lbs.

Diaz went on to score one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, submitting the featherweight champion in the second round.

The rematch

After Diaz pulled off the huge upset at UFC 196, McGregor demanded a rematch which took place at UFC 202 just five months after their first meeting.

The Irishman opted for the fight to be contested at 170lbs again as he didn’t want there to be any excuses about the weight, and this time, the two had a whole fight camp to prepare for the matchup.

The rematch was originally set to take place at UFC 200 but it was rescheduled after McGregor failed to fulfill media obligations.

McGregor started the fight strong and looked to be having his way with the Stockton brawler in the opening few rounds.

Diaz then started to get back into the fight in the latter rounds but ultimately couldn’t do enough to edge the decision.

‘The Notorious’ successfully avenged his loss by picking up the majority decision, and the fight was once again awarded Fight of the Night.

Josh Neer vs Nate Diaz

In September 2008, Diaz headlined his first UFC Fight Night event, taking on Josh Neer in a lightweight bout. After a close fight, Diaz picked up a split decision win and another post-fight bonus, after the fight was awarded Fight of the Night.

After beating the veteran, Neer, Diaz was finally given the chance to shine on a PPV, with his next fight coming against Clay Guida at UFC 94.

Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev

With him only having one fight left on his UFC contract and making it clear that he wasn’t looking to renegotiate a new deal, Diaz’s last fight was scheduled to come against soaring contender Khamzat Chimaev.

The booking was questioned by fight fans as Diaz had lost his last two fights and Chimaev was on a tear at 170lbs. Despite that, the consensus was the promotion was looking to build Chimaev’s name by having him fight one of their big stars.

Despite that, a day before their scheduled UFC 279 main event, ‘Borz’ weighed in 7.5lbs over the limit as he grinned on the scales. Because of that, their fight was scrapped and Diaz was given Tony Ferguson, who was already on the card.

After a bizarre fight, Diaz locked in a guillotine choke in the fourth round, bowing out of his UFC career with another submission win.
